Witt & Howard, PLLC
Our Practice is Your Solution

About Us

Passion. Experience. Diligence.

In October of 2012, a common entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to take the practice of law in a new direction led attorneys Michael Witt and Courtney Howard to form Witt & Howard, PLLC. Prior to working together, both Michael and Courtney worked in many different types of legal environments, ranging from large insurance defense firms to small business law firms. Their experience has taught them not only about the law, but about the dynamics of running a law practice in a manner that best serves the most important person: the client.

We believe that client comfort leads to the most important part of the attorney-client relationship: trust. Many of our clients are dealing with a legal problem for the first time in their life. Law offices can be intimidating; to this end, we are happy to meet new clients for coffee and, under certain circumstances, at their home. We also understand that legal fees are a concern to all of us as consumers, irrespective of whether we are purchasing legal services or groceries.

Courtney Howard

Courtney Howard is a founding partner of Witt & Howard, PLLC. Prior to co-founding Witt & Howard, PLLC, Mrs. Howard litigated at an insurance defense firm in Denver, Colorado, where she represented insurance companies in a variety of litigation matters. During her time at the insurance defense firm, Mrs. Howard learned the “ins” and “outs” of both sides of litigation. She both provided defense counsel as well as represented her corporate clients in the prosecution of a variety of tort claims. This dynamic experience taught her how to properly value a case and exercise good business judgment on behalf of her clients in order to obtain swift, practical, and reasonable results.

Currently, Mrs. Howard represents businesses and individuals in state and federal civil litigation matters transcending a number of legal disciplines, including products liability, premises liability, personal injury, adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court, trademark disputes, insurance subrogation, and business disputes through all stages of litigation. In addition to her practical experience, Courtney has a sustained interest in developing and mastering her litigation skills. To this end, she recently earned the professional designation of Advocate by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA). An attorney that attains the Advocate Designation is considered by NITA to have achieved a well-rounded foundation in trial advocacy.

Courtney has a passion for environmental law and holds an LL.M. from the University of Denver in Natural Resources and Environmental Law with specializations in Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy Law and Policy and Energy Law and Policy. She has leveraged her experience at DU to bring a wide variety of services to her clients. Her services include conducting due diligence for landowners seeking to sell mineral interests and assisting landowner clients in assessing the nature of their mineral interest in the context of a purchase offer. Courtney has also negotiated conservation easements for clients by providing general counseling to clients throughout the course of the easement creation, drafting all contracts, easements and other related documents, conducting a review of due diligence materials and coordinating closings.

From her representation of small business clients in a litigation setting, Mrs. Howard now provides many of those clients with general counseling services. Her business services range from negotiating business acquisitions, purchase contracts and share assignments to drafting contracts and counseling on sustainable development practices.

Outside of her practice, Courtney loves to spend time with her family, run marathons, and travel.
